Friends of Trees

My friend Teri, who works at Friends of Trees, was behind getting the project mentioned on their website and blog. They even posted my Sesame Street video!

Building

I'm working on the panels for the Mother Tree, which is quite involved. The paper is handmade abaca, double-couched with hemp thread in between. Several sheets are patchworked together (with glue) to make the paper panels.

I'm using my knowledge of Japanese lamp-making to create the armature and templates for the paper panels. It is slow-going with many steps, and thankfully I have a steady intern for a few weeks!
